'Good Fren' and I cleaned up the apartment on this cool Saturday morning, then made our way to Novena Square 2 basement to check out a former Raffles Hall mate's new business, called

BREAD BAR.

The shop, at the basement of Novena Square 2 when you get out of the MRT gantry, is merely 1 week old.
Many well-wishing flower arrangements lined along the corridor.

It's really quite weird to watch Daniel Hui fiddle with flour and food. I mean... Afterall... I only remember him as:

1. ASEAN scholar from Malaysia
   
2. NUS Mechanical Engine Student
3. Raffles Hall Badminton Team
   
4. Raffles Hall Sepak Tekraw Team
   

Look at this... It's almost... GENTLE?!!

Daniel is... COOKING?!!

So what exactly is Daniel and his business partner, Tee Hau, selling to the public?


油条!! Or fried dough sticks!!!

HUH?!!
What's so great about Bread Bar's fried dough sticks, you may ask...
I asked that question too...

Have you ever had your dough sticks come in 6 different flavours?!

Imagine the fragrance of fried dough + onion?!!

Or have your fried dough sticks with dips like kaya, mango, sweet wasabe etc?


Or have your fried dough sticks wrapped in a thin film of fried eggs, squashed together with a slice of juicy otah, satay or tuna?

'Good Fren' and I were skeptical initially, but were totally convinced after biting into everything.

I kept saying,"It tastes like Malaysia!!!"
(Coz Daniel is from Ipoh and Tee Hau is from Johore Bahru!)

Apparently, Daniel Hui took French language lessons for 3 years, but still can't converse properly... HO HO HO...
And it happened that his french class mates turned up to show support!

They are such good friends that they bought this set of mugs to drink from at work!!

I made a short video of my experience at Bread Bar.
It even comes with an informal interview with Daniel...
Really genuine and cute.
Somehow... I wanted to cry while putting the video together...

Daniel told us that during the inception stage, he would go to other fried dough sticks stalls and stand there for 3 hours to observe the operation, the sales, the customers etc.

I think it's fucking cool that Daniel and Tee Hau (former engineers and colleagues) have taken the leap to try something.
Perhaps if you have seen what I have... You will know that in contrast to people who sit around and whine, Daniel and Tee Hau's spirit is priceless.

'Good Fren' and I bought 2 x all 6 flavours to pass to his friends for sampling.
(Coz 'Good Fren' is going for a wedding dinner tonight... Just right for 'distribution' with Bread Bar's namecards!! =))))
