BZ Sunday!!

I had a rather packed Sunday.

11am ~ Woke up. Found 'Good Fren' racing in the living room.

12pm ~ Did laundry.

1pm ~ Made our way to Centrepoint. Had lunch at Crystal Jade (Korean). Same as yesterday. I also dunno why. Went to Robinsons. Bought shampoo, facial cleanser, ladle holder, ladle, cat food, cat toy etc,

3.30pm ~ Got home and found this:

4.00pm ~ Got to work.

8.00pm ~ Had some fast food for quick dinner.

8.30pm ~ Got off work and headed home.

9.00pm ~ Watched some crap musical movie on Channel 5 while folding clothes.

10.00pm ~ Caught Ugly Betty while having ginseng soup.

11.00pm ~ Got in 小白 and headed for St James Power House.

12.00am ~ Watched Hideki's Swan Song. As usual, with loads of boys, speedos and cheeky fun.

I'm quite sure YanDaoKia was one of the boys on-stage.
He was so totally in chains and blindfolded. I is not kidding. =P

1.15am ~ Got home.

I need to get to sleep soon.
Need to wake up by 6.30am and be at work by 7.30am. =_=

I was reminded of the concept of MORTALITY and MORBIDITY earlier this week.
Via an sms.
Ah... It must be the Internet Age.

"Don't you want to spend more time with the dying then? Want to visit the dying soon?" the people immediately asked.

What's more strange than the concept of Mortality and Morbidity is the concept that because someone is dying or may die means you have to start spending more time with this person.

What's the point of spending more time with a dying person if you didn't intend to without realising that his life span was finite in the first place?
.....................................

At the age of 12, I had my first encounter with Death.
Not mine. My Grandmother's.
I thought Death was huge.
It's so huge that people and things have to stop when Death passes by.

19 years later, I realise that Death will only be huge if people were not animals.
That if they truly were people, they would stop and hang their heads in respect when they see or smell Death in a distance.
Even if they were incapable of understanding the enormity of Death, they would hang their heads in respect.

But people are animals.

They can't even stop themselves from talking involuntarily.
You know, like involuntary body twitching or a lisp?
Of course, it's not possible to expect that they hang their heads in respect.

All these noises. All this chatter.
The eating noises. The immense disgust.
The disrespect for Life and Death.

The animals who clothe themselves in polyester, education and the pathetic endless spews of self-justification.

新加坡!

Check this out!

It is apparently a Singaporean ad to induce emigration from Hong Kong in the late 80s/early 90s.

20 years later, they are still featuring the standard elements of Singapore, i.e. Sentosa, Bird Park, the city skyline, the cosmopolitan living and the local Satay Man.

Actually, because HDB flats were left out, the video looks more like a tourism ad to me.

The Pinky Show

I was surfing around and found this clip on Thomas Edison Hates Cats, i.e. a little video report hosted by Pinky the Cat.

More clicking around made me realised that Pinky the Cat covers a series of socio-political issues. And one of the videos is on Nuclear Weapons with a phone interview with Dr John Burroughs from the Lawyers' Committee on Nuclear Policy. And he ain't no fictional character.

And as with learning about anything in this era, one has to verify with Wikipedia.
Here you go... I have provided the link to the Wikipedia page on Nuclear Weapons.

I must say that the Pinky Show is a rather enticing concept, because it attempts to share, with students and anyone on Youtube, knowledge on serious topics in a friendly manner.
And yet, at the same time, it doesn't come across as trying too hard.
In fact, I probably like it because it's a little dark in the oh-so-cute way.

HO HO HO!!

In Full Bloom

'Good Fren' and I went to look at plants this weekend. We want some green for the apartment.

We must have driven past Far East Flora probably hundreds of times, but have never gone in for a look.
And we found a huge walk-in fridge full of flowers!!

We were like... This feels like a holiday!!
We are in HOLLAND!!!

It's really quite cold inside. We were 'smoking' as we spoke.
Check out the huge air-conditioners on the ceiling!

We bought these... For less than SGD9!!!

The label on the plastic wrap said: Periwinkles.
'Good Fren' was like... Periwinkles... We read about them in story books as a child. And now... We finally get to see and buy them."

But according to Wikipedia, these don't look like Periwinkles at all!!

*scratch head*

Maybe it's Periwinkle, the colour?

小猫眯

We fed Blinky his antibiotics this noon. Had to try twice. He spat in the first try and ran away.
=_=

His pee looks much better today.

Just as 'Good Fren' was trying to read the papers, Blinky found his way in-between the sheets.

Simply love his "I Dun Care If This Is Improper" attitude.

And "I will only move when I am done" finish.

Meanwhile, Tiger took my chair at the desk. =_=

小猫眯 我要拥抱你的可爱 一直到永远
我们就象隔世的恋人 似远似近 互相折磨
你占有的空间 若有一天 不在充实
我会很努力地 很尽量地 记起 今天的拥抱

Blinky goes to the Vet AGAIN

We couldn't tell which cat pee-ed all over the apartment 2 nights ago. Then this morning, I found bright blood-stained pee near the litter box. The cat litter was stained as well.
We observed for a while.
Blinky kept going to the litter box. Only a little bloody pee dripped every trip.

Off to the vet, we went.
We were lucky. The next available slot was in 1 hour.

Dr Johnson spoke in a thick Australian accent and is rather funny. Amidst his accent and a lot of stuff he was saying, I thought I heard him say that Blinky was a PSYCHO.
And I didn't hear him wrongly.
He did say Blinky was a psycho AND a loony.
Then he showed me this 'EXTREME CARE' remark on Blinky's card. Apparently, Blinky had been uber unfriendly in the last session. =_=

I felt really bad for the people who had to handle him and kept apologising. Then Dr Johnson said,

"It's not your fault.
But if Blinky were your child, that would be your fault."

Wow... He knows that particular difference between human and animals! I was rather stunned for a while.
I mean...
He's a vet and all, but because this world is so full of shiteheads that I cannot assume many people know that children can and need to be educated, and not just clothed in cute t-shirts which say 'I LOVE MOMMY & DADDY', and breastfed for the 'better and natural nutrition'.
And we all presume that ALL parents are able to do so by default.
That's like how big an assumption?!
How could any rational person make such as assumption, when you need at least 'N' levels to serve me McDees? Surely bringing up a kid is much more complicated than serving at McDees? Damn... Even being armed with a PhD doesn't guarantee good parenting skills.
But many people tell themselves that.
Guess it is difficult to work out the criteria of a good parent. That's probably really why no one has tried.

In any case...
Apart from the shocking bloody sight, Blinky is most probably suffering from a bad urinary tract infection.
He has been given some antibiotics for the next 10 days. I totally dread this, but it has to be done.
He should be ok in a few days.
If not, he may require further investigation which includes sedation and stuff.

And for his licking, Dr Johnson says many pets do so.
He didn't say why. I didn't ask.
But I secretly think it may be due to the animal being in captivity, i.e. boredom, because I don't see roaming animals licking themselves excessively.
But before one gets into 'SO MAN MUST NOT KEEP ANIMALS IN CAPTIVITY' argument, there are many other upsides for animals in captivity.
I don't wanna get into that now.

Before we left the clinic, Dr Johnson told us to keep our fingers crossed,"If you still have them! HAHAHAHA!!"
I think he's crazy-funny. =)))

We got home and managed to feed Blinky's 1st half of his antibiotic tab. It went really well. He didn't struggle much. Not scratching either. I had 1 go at dropping the tab and he swallowed it.
Easy-Peasy... We're cool!!!

You see?? Blinky is not a PSYCHO!

Ok... He's probably still is... Just too tired to struggle just now. =_=

Regardless what/who he is, I love him all the same.

I had drinks with 3 long lost friends (to varying degrees) this evening. It's really quite good fun.
It's amazing how it has been more than 10 years. And part of us is still at a loss.
I dun think we will ever find 'it', the meaning is in the journey.
And the day we stop is the day we die.

Somehow, I'm in a retro mode.
Check this out!!!

Super nostalgic!!!
I'm in Primary School again!!!
SMURFS on Sunday mornings!!

WOO HOO!!

I suspect the dog is on sedatives or something.

Had been wanting to highlight this for a while now...
My favourite monkey of Yr 2007!!!
BUBBLES!!

I especially love the part where Bubbles grabs Scot's face!!!

Scot and Bubbles ought to have won.
I'm sure the Queen will be plenty entertained by a singing monkey puppet, rather than yet another opera singer.

=_=

名门正派?!!

Tonight, 张无忌 lost his folks because of 江湖 pressures, consisting of only 名门正派s.
It's freaking sad. =_=

Then the 名门正派aka orthodox clans/groups refused to save him from dying.
It's freaking depressing. =_=

According to 金庸, 名门正派s are usually selfish, hypocritical and 迂腐. 迂腐 sounds familiar, but I am not sure of its exact definition, so I checked it up.
It means

What is 迂腐?
Both 东邪 and 金毛狮王 (who happened to be the same actor, 曾江) used it separately.
I doubt it is possible to find a perfect substitute word for 迂腐, but I try.

It means being doctrinaire and pedantic about rules, regulations, social norms etc.
Plus throw in a large chunk of 食古不化.

That's 名门正派 for you.

Always accusing others of being 魔教, 小妖女...
我呸!!

Song of India & LocoRoco

I placed a reservation for 3 at Song of India for Friday night.
'Good Fren', his friend, J, and I had Indian Cuisine for dinner.

Song of India is housed in a black and white conserved bungalow along Scotts Road, just beside SKII.

The landscaping is the usual lush tropical/Southeast Asian style. Somehow, it doesn't go out of fashion. Coz maybe because of the overwhelming proportion of green, which is any case looks the same, especially at night. If look the same means we 'accept' it as 'natural', hence it will not go out of fashion in our psyche.

WTH... We're here for dinner. FOCUS!!

The ambience was kind of sedating... I dun really know why...
The crowd was mixed in terms of demographics.
The mid-life dating couple, families with babies (I was eying them...), the business group, the weathered couple, the family with grown-up children... About 80% expats.
And us... the local trio sniggering at nerd jokes.
=)))

They served us this before we could order anything.

Food decisions were rather daunting coz I had no idea what were really on the menu.
However, the waitress was really helpful, and also advised us to stop when we got over-zealous with the menu-pointing.

Very rich and tasty dishes were served as follows:

From top left clockwise: Cottage Cheese, Some Prawns married with Crayfish, the Ginger-tasting ice cream, the mains - 2 different types of naan, rice with crabmeat, Lucknavi Chicken soup and some lamb curries.

I can't remember their names... Too long... Too exotic.

There is something about Indian Food...
My fart was weirdly aromatic the next day. But I doubt 'Good Fren' will agree. =)))

In any case, J got back to the table from the loo, and announced that there was a fly in the urinal.

And so, we had a short discussion on why such an idea would be required, i.e. that aiming was really a difficult task for males.
I add: If after a couple of thousand years, aiming is still a problem, perhaps evolution ought to take care of it.
But I guess, unless the lack of aiming abilities threatens survival, it is unlikely that evolution is gonna do anything about it.
.....................................

Back to the dinner... We had the dinner because (i) J is on leave, and (ii) it's a good opportunity for J to pass 'Good Fren' his birthday gift, i.e. LOCOROCO for his PSP.

A few days before, J sent me an sms and an email to check if 'Good Fren' also had LOCOROCO.
So sweet hor??

The next day, I spent about 6 hours completing the game.
=)))

I dunno what's overcome me!
I usually am not fascinated with such things.
Though I was rather good at Super Mario Bros and Daytona in the arcades in my younger days.

Now I am replaying some of the levels so that I can get perfect scores and open up the MiniGames.

I is mad... and it's not even my birthday present!!!
=))))

我是渺小的无名蚁

An ingenuous ant making my way through the grassroots.

I've been unwell again for the past couple of days.
Been running a slight fever. My facial lady thought my face was extraordinarily warm.
And I have 3 ulcers in my mouth, and 2 of which are threatening to combine power. =_=
It's Medijel and salt water to the rescue!!

'We are a rock revolving...
Around the golden sun...
We are a billion children rolled into one...
blah blah blah...'

*closes eyes and sways to the music*

'Good Fren's favourite response to me these days is as follows:

'You is CRAY-ZEE!!!'

............................

In any case, we are off to collect 小白, which he left at some wedding dinner last night because he had some alcohol in the name of propriety, then turned purple as usual.
One of his friends offered to send him home.
I was meant to go for the wedding coz I is usually his alcoholic-挡箭牌. Unfortunately, this 挡箭牌 is LOU-GEE, coz kena attacked by ulcers and fever.

In any case,

A BIG 'CONGRATULATIONS!!'
TO THE 7-7-7 COUPLE!

(Paiseh... I couldn't make it...
And remember,
helicopters are less important than the wifey!)

So many changes on 1 Jul 07!
Especially the smoking ban!

I was talking to Moby on 30 Jun 07...

BM: Oi... Tomorrow is the smoking ban leh!! Shall we go chionging tonight? Smoke in Members till we faint?
Moby: Siao... You dun even smoke anymore!

=_=

FWAH... I cannot imagine Zouk without the smoke smell leh... It's like chionging without music.

Must go check it out one of these days.

Also, must go to St James quickly... before I become Lao Zhar Boh, then they refuse me entry how?!
I have 4 years left for free Ladies' Night drinks leh!!
Better start saving up for chionging, man!!

Or maybe, I can open a club for former chiongers to chiong in.
Where No One Judges...
The antithesis to the conventional clubs where females are 'club meat' and males are suckers (coz they buy all the drinks).

Oh BTW... I've been thinking again... about why the cinemas do not have 'No Kids' runs of movies.
E.g. I wanna watch Transformers in peace, so I would definitely pay more to watch only with adults, i.e. 21 yrs old and above please.
If some cool Jap anime movie is showing, I'd pay more to watch it in peace too, you know!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GACKT!!!

4 July... It's Independence Day for Americans.

More importantly, it is GACKT's birthday!!!

He must be like 500 years old by now.

And guess what?
He speaks and sings in MANDARIN!!!
WTF?!!

Watch his best.

Another 500 more years, please!!

Katong Laksa!!

I love Katong Laksa.
This may sound weird, but the best part is chewing on half cooked sea-hum in the thick coconut gravy, especially if you get the slightly gritty feeling in your mouth.

DO NOT TELL ME WHAT THE GRITTY FEELING IS CAUSED BY!!! I DUN REALLY WANNA KNOW!!

We usually go for this laksa stall, instead of its rival across the road.

Right beside the stall, you can find this guy selling fruits with his father.

I spotted the resemblance and asked...

BM: 那个是你的爸爸啊?
Guy: 你认识他啊?
BM: 没有啦。你们长得很像!
Guy: 是吗?有没有50%?

*blah blah blah*

The guy actually looks quite fierce coz of hardcore tattoos and ah beng-ness, but is really super friendly.

We ended up buying lots from him.
Mangoes and a basket of lychees!
MMMMMmmmmm...
.............................

'Good Fren' and I love fruits.
In particular, he likes mangoes, while I like most fruits, except for nuah nuah fruits like persimmons.
I dislike nuah nuah vegetables too, e.g. brinjal and lady's fingers.

Incidentally, someone told me today that some people didn't like fruits. I was quite shocked.
I mean... If people dislike vegetables, I can understand, but dislike fruits?!!
That's so weird!

I tried to be a Fruitarian for a while some years ago.
Surviving only on fruits (and beer)... =)))
Guess it was rather novel for the 1st couple of days...
Then I decided Hokkien Mee was too good to give up.

But I believe it is good to go on a all-fruit diet for a couple of days once in a while.
It clears shite (literally) from the system.
Which reminds me... I have yet to go for an enema.
I read that some spas in Singapore now offer it!!
WOO HOO!!!

Confused

Last night, I watched 神雕 on my own coz 'Good Fren' came back late from work.
Though he finally got home, he was in a daze, which he sustained through picking up his PSP.

So after going through 2 discs, and getting rather pissed off with 杨过 coz he started to hanging around with the lame girl, I decided to go to bed.
'Good Fren' was still punching away on his PSP.

BM: Nobody loves! Nobody loves!
GF: *didn't look up from his PSP* VERY BEE-ZEE!!
BM: Nobody loves! Nobody loves!
GF: You know... There is some truth to that statement of yours.
BM: =_=
GF: HAHAHAHA!!
..................................

So tonight, 'Good Fren' and I managed some quality time by witnessing 2+ hours of falling concrete and exploding metals.

We caught the Transformers tonight.

What's the name of this Police Decepticon?
He's damn funny!!
His side says: To Punish & Enslave!!!

After the movie, I concluded that the storyline was unreal.

I mean... How could the Autobots have won in the end, when they couldn't even fly?
Optimus Prime had to tumble off the building to get to the ground, whilst Megatron just flew around effortlessly?!!

In any case, while the Decepticons were mostly in dark colours and tribal tattoo pieces, I thought Optimus Prime was the most Beng of all.
Only Optimus Prime looked zhnged, i.e. he had the 'Beng flames'... in red somemore.

I must have confused the plots of 神雕 and Transformers, coz somehow, I feel rather irritated by Optimus Prime.
He reminds me of 郭婧.
Very righteous and Gong Gong one.

Kimutaku & Wife

Erm... This is Kimutaku's wife.
Her name is Shizuka Kudo.

No shite... She's supposed to be a famous singer in Japan.

Check out her younger days!!

Then more recently in Yr 2005.

Major work done!!

But But But...
You must read this report on the Kimura family from Mainichi. Makes Kimutaku sound so irresponsible, and Shizuka Kudo, an epitome of a Japanese wife.

I am rather intrigued by her.
She sounds like a very determined person.
Almost like clockwork.

While Kimutaku busies himself with his pursuits.
This Nikon sums up it nicely.

Btw, I found a Yr 2006 Mainichi report on split-up rumors?

Whatever is it... I am intrigued...
By the union... By them...

The Civil Gap

'Good Fren' and I went shopping today.
At the cashier's counter, we were trying to pay for our stuff, when 'Good Fren' realised that a middle-aged Chinese lady female was trying to cut in-between us and the next person in the queue.
She had placed her stuff on the counter.
After I made the payment, the Chinese female motioned to the cashier for payment.
That's when 'Good Fren' told her that the person, Indonesian-looking female in her early twenties, behind him was next.

GF: *points at the Indonesian lady and says to the Queue-Cutter* She's next.
QC: *looks straight ahead without making eye-contact* Is it? I dunno. *continues to stand at counter and pushes her stuff nearer to the cashier*
GF: Yes. I am letting you know now. She's next.
QC: *still looking straight ahead* I dunno! I dunno!
GF: Yes. She's next. Cutting queue is not right.
QC: I dunno! I dunno! Ask cashier lah!
GF: *points to Indonesian lady* She has been waiting behind us, so she's next. *points to Chinese female* She... is cutting queue.

The cashier then motioned for the Indonesian lady to move towards the counter. The latter then said,'Thank you! Thank you!' to 'Good Fren'.

Seriously, the queue was super short, i.e. us and the Indonesian lady. And we each only had a couple of items.
Don't see why the Queue-Cutter had to cut the queue.

Some time ago, 'Good Fren' had also witnessed a mother asking her child to cut a super long queue. But when 'Good Fren' highlighted to the cashier, she said it was 'never mind' because it's a child.
.....................................

Such behaviour falls within the gap between the formal rules (i.e. the Law) and the informal rules (i.e. Public Expectations).

So what happens when someone flouts an informal rule?
It is not under the jurisdiction of any formal organisation. The public will have to ensure that 'things are set right'.
And the more bochap we are, the more some people will take advantage of this gap.

'Good Fren' was lamenting how difficult it was to mobilise everyday people to help keep a lookout for people who flout the informal rules.
That it would unlikely be an effective system.

The paranoid me kept thinking about those who take matters in their own hands.
That would be even more problematic, then flouting the informal rules to begin with.
In its most extreme form, vigilantism is really a lousy idea.

I think the really brilliant solution is, really, let the human beings think that they are being watched all the time.
Because ultimately, human beings are intelligent beings.
It's not that they are unaware or do not understand the rules (of course, some are denser than others).
It's just that they think they can get away with it.
So... Just let them know that they are being watched and will be judged + punished.

Cool eh?
Better than nothing lah...
