It's really cute that I keep seeing people searching for "blinkymummy good friend married"!

Alright... Here's the official blog entry...

After 6 years together (inclusive of 5 years of living together), 'Good Fren' and I got ourselves legally married in 2011.

Qn: Why get married at all?

Getting legally married is an unavoidable step in the larger scheme of things which we plan to achieve, i.e. getting our new place, having a kid etc. Without the marriage certificate, we wouldn't be able to use both our CPF for the new place. Without the marriage certificate, any kid would be... erm... illegitimate. You get the pic.

So getting officially married is more like an administrative detail. And it certainly felt like one throughout the highly rationalised and highly efficient process.

Ok, People...

What's a single term that describes someone who is ignorant, yet arrogant?

I welcome English and Mandarin terms. OK, Korean terms too.

But not names of people, or types of people, communities etc.

Not everyday words such as 'moron'. =)

Afterwards, we think about why this term is lacking in our languages...

And perhaps... if language is a manifestation of our consciousness, that we have regressed.

Aristotle is kind of haha-funny.

There is this general agreement in 'society' that being competitive is a good thing.

It is not.

And I am not talking about businesses, countries, or any other types of organisations. I am referring to a person being competitive.

Being Competitive v Being Self-Motivated.

These two concepts, while being confusingly similar, are in fact very different.

Being Competitive

Being competitive mean competing against others.

'Good Fren' and I were a a family restaurant a couple of days ago. The kid was fussing, so I had held her in my arms and walked around while 'Good Fren' finished the meal.

Just then, this lady sitting at the next table and waiting for her dabao asked,"Are you Blinkymummy? I used to read your blog!"

She reminded me that I have been neglecting my blog.

Sorry, guys... I've been uber busy. More than ever.

“我生下来就会啦!”

“屁啦!”

是的,我又听着周鸟脸的歌。

一阵小冲动。想回到那些”阿莲“的日子。

等着那辆Honda Civic ESI,载我疯狂去。

舞池 很暗 很迷糊 很诱人

可能某天某日,我将会,与她,再次回踏舞池。

在她耳边,念着:”听妈妈的话。。。乱舞春秋。。。困兽在互斗。。。“ www.blinkymummy.blogspot.com

Is there a term for the phenomenon that people are well-read and highly trained in certain areas of knowledge, but fail to put to practice their knowledge in real life, e.g. in family, at work, in the everyday life?

E.g. A civil engineer ,who knows how to use all types of project management tools, but is always messy about family matters.

E.g. A doctor who leads a heart attack prone lifestyle.

E.g. A sociologist who is a slave to social constructs.

E.g.

While you ought to be honest and not tell lies, you must also learn that most people lie.

And that because most people lie, they may choose not to believe in you when you tell the truth.

Last weekend, my father said to my daughter,

"外公看不到你结婚。

假如看得到你中学毕业,已经算很了不起了。"

The inescapable fact is humbling.

After reading the latest announcement on how the government has approved to spend SGD105 million dollars per annum on infant- and child-care subsidies, I cannot help but to write about what an infant care incident we have suffered reveals about the infant/childcare system in Singapore.

[THE INFANT CARE SCALDING INCIDENT]

Last Nov, on Fri the 16th, just a couple of hours before my exam, I found 3 missed calls on my mobile phone.
